Dining On the Porch

I've admired others' tablescapes for some time now and decided to give one a try myself.  It was a lot of fun combining a few new acquisitions with my own vintage pieces.

The blue salad plates and soup bowls are from Home Goods as are the napkins.  All the other pieces are from around our home.  The larger white plates were from Old Time Pottery about 20 years ago and the crystal goblets are from our wedding 25 years ago.  (We should use these more....we aren't getting any younger!)  The small white plates and the blue and white pitcher holding the flowers is from my mother-in-law.

She was also with me when I bought the dessert dishes and berry bowls at a local estate auction.   Those blue stemmed wine glasses I recently bought at a resale shop when Wonderful Hubby and I were on a weekend get-away.

Can I make confession?  The napkin rings are Dollar General shower curtain rings.  Is that cheating?

Those are my hydrangeas!  I'll show you the bush in a bit.  The daisies and baby's breath were part of the table decorations for our 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration.  I reused them for this display.

The flatware is from my great aunt and uncle.  They had their monogram engraved on them.  Their last name was Clark.

My hydrangeas all grew on the same bush!  I'm not sure why they ranged from periwinkle blue to pink but we certainly  have enjoyed them!!

Well, I have to admit that was fun!  When I asked how to go about this tablescaping thing, several suggested I 'shop my house' to see what I could put together.  It turned out to be a stroll down memory lane.  I may have to try it again soon.  Thanks for stopping by!

Oh, didn't you do a fantastic job on this??? Everyone loves blue and white and hydrangeas! Your idea about using a shower curtain ring, as a napkin ring was brilliant and so creative!!! I adore the blue stemware - beautiful job!!

I'd say you have tabescaping down. With the lovely pieces you have to work with, it's no wonder. The beautiful hydrangeas are a perfect complement for your blue and white.

Hi there! This is my first visit to your blog, and I congratulate you for stepping out there and creating your first tablescape to share with the world!!! Fun, isn't it??!? And you did a terrific job! Blue & white is for me, as it is with my buddy Judy above, an all-time favorite. It's one of those color combos that can be used year-round but have different appeal based on what accessories you use and what complementary colors you pair up with it. Love it!

Hooray for you deciding to use your wedding crystal!!! I use my stuff all day every day!!! No, it can't just be tossed into the dishwasher, but that's OK. Washing it by hand gives one a chance to appreciate the design and intricacies of each piece.

I LOVE your Aunt & Uncle's monogrammed flatware!!! Ah, the good ol' days when people monogrammed or initialed everything! If I could afford it, I'd have monogrammed EVERYTHING in my house!!!

Great idea to go with the shower curtain ring! I don't think that's cheating at all. It's thinking outside that proverbial box and using things in unconventional ways. That's a big part of creative tablescaping and decorating!!!

Last, your hydrangeas are absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!! I love how they came up in different hues on the same bush! I attempted to grow them once a few years back, but they didn't survive. They are one of my favorite all-time flowers, though. Just love those big, moppy heads on 'em!!!

Very nice! Enjoy your weekend, and I hope to see you back on BNOTP with another tablescape sometime soon!

You did a fantastic job on your first tablescape in Blogville! I love your wedding crystal. It's stunning, and yes, you should use it more often. Blue and white china is a fav of mine, and so are Hydrangeas, so you know I liked this table. The use of the shower curtain rings is not cheating - it is very clever. laurie

The words "My First Tablescape" caught my eye. I had to come see what you did. It's lovely! Who doesn't love blue and white? I'm so envious of your beautiful Hydrangeas and the colors. I planted two last year and they have failed to thrive. I keep hoping. At least they haven't died yet, LOL. Love your table. You did a great job.

Welcome to the world of tablescaping! So fun to witness your first one (which is lovely!). You chose the "right" colors for your first--the classic blue and white seems to be everyone's favorite, including me. The flatware is beautiful! I hope you can get to many others in the near future! ~Zuni

Your tablescape looks lovely. Welcome to the fun! Love the monogrammed family flatware. It's always fun to add a bit of history. And I agree with Alycia, the shower curtain rings aren't cheating. Finding new and creative ways to use things is part of the fun.

Looking forward to your next tablescape.
