Shutter Screen Project

I've seen several posts that have used shutters as decorative screens.  We have an old house on our farm that belonged to Wonderful Hubby's grandparents.  He is in the process of tearing it down and I noticed it still had a few reclaimable shutters.  Here is a picture of the old homestead.

He and Favorite Son took them down and brought them home.  This is what they looked like at that point.  Even Jewel was skeptical!

The paint was pretty faded but the slats and frames were solid.  The original color was green.  One set was a bit shorter than the other so I decided to put the taller two in the center.  Wonderful Hubby cleaned the rust off the original hinges and Favorite Son attached the shutters together for me.

I painted one side of the shutter screen green, as they had been originally.

The other side received a cream coat.

The screen was put to use last week when I put this tablescape together.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

It's special to think we saved this part of our family's homestead and will be able to use and enjoy it for years to come.

LOVE that you have shutters from the old homestead! You would love a blog I follow, called far Above Rubies. She lives in Tennessee and is on the property of her parents and grandparents and fills their home with all these wonderful family pieces.
